Getting the Video Right For Virtual Meetings

Video conferencing has become more important than ever.  But videography is both an art and a science.  Here are some tips that will help you look good.

Do’s

Setting your space for success.

  • Good lighting that isn’t likely to change as the meeting progresses

Camera placement

  • Place your camera on a stable platform so that it doesn’t shake if you move.
  • Raise the camera so that it is at eye level and don’t appear to be looking down at everyone.
  • Make certain you are framed close enough to see your shoulders and a couple of inches above your head with your mouth in the center  (sort of like a Passport photo or a mugshot)

Ensuring video quality

  • Use an external camera (See options below).

Don’ts

  • Avoid using the built in camera on the laptop
  • Don’t use your smart phone’s camera to present or manage the event
  • Don’t put camera on a platform that shakes

Technology:

  • High Definition Webcam
  • Top of the line smartphone
  • Digital SLR camera
  • High def video camcorder
