Keep your internet connection during virtual presentations

Routers, modems, wifi, oh my! There are a lot of things that can go wrong when connected to the internet. Here are some tips to keep you connected and your video shared.

Do’s

  • Connect to your router preferably by using an ethernet cable. If not possible, then use WiFi.  Try to connect to 5 GHz wireless network if the signal is strong, otherwise move closer to the router or use 2.4 GHz.
  • Shutdown all the applications that you will not be using in your presentation.
  • Shutdown all other streaming, gaming, video applications or systems that connect to the internet.

Verify your upload AND download speeds are at least 3 Mbps. Use https://www.speedtest.net/ to test internet speed

 

Don’ts

  • Avoid using public WiFi
  • Don’t be too far from the WiFi router if using WiFi
  • Don’t stream video, play internet based video games, or upload or download large files while on in the virtual meeting and ask anyone sharing your internet service not to as well.
